Broken Social Scene | Hug of Thunder
With their singular ability for carving our soaring chorus’, the spiky energy and their knack for tender melodies, Hug Of Thunder above all else, recaptures the triumph that was the 2002 breakthrough You Forgot It In People. BSS has again taken all available voices and synthesized all these talented people into a joyful whole. Perhaps realizing what they nearly threw away we see again what made this a great band in the first place: a the sound of people having the time of their lives.

Toro y Moi | Boo Boo
Toro y Moi, regardless of the genre he’s experimenting with at the time, has always been focused on production. And while these 12 tracks are especially polished, we find Toro y Moi transitioning more into a pop singer than anything else. Creating the his strangest melodies to date, with shades of Talking Heads, Bundick remains introspective and wistful in a very deliberate way.

HAIM | Something To Tell You
With Something To Tell You HAIM’s ability to create consistent, cohesive and enjoyable records while still being sincere and ambitious. Maybe somewhere down the line they’ll really start getting weird with it and really stepping out of their comfort zone, but for now instead of criticizing a lack of sonic innovation, it’s best to enjoy what is currently working – this easy-going, riff based lovelorn record that is worth spending some time with.
