Contemporary soul singer, Leela James, has quietly remained relevant in an ever changing R&B landscape. The release of her new album Did it for Love, marks her sixth full-length studio album since she burst onto the scene in 2005 with the critically received A Change is Gonna Come. She wrote most of the songs on the 12 track album along with Rex Rideout, an A&R and studio vet, who’s worked with the likes of BJ the Chicago Kid, Ledisi and Will Downing. She’s discovering newfound success as a new generation is introduced to her powerfully gritty and sultry vocals on her latest single, “Don’t Want you Back.” Upon release of the single last fall, it became the “most added” song at Urban AC stations across the country and surpassed her best performing single “Set Me Free,” landing at number six on the R&B charts. To ride the momentum of the recognition the R&B powerhouse is finally receiving, she recently announced her upcoming tour which includes more than 20 cities in less than 30 days.
