While we anxiously await a new Soundgarden album (which is coming!), the band’s frontman Chris Cornell will first release his fourth solo album, (& first since reuniting with his old band) Higher Truth. The album was helmed by (super)producer Brendan O’Brien who’s worked with Cornell before with both Soundgarden and Audioslave.

Fans hopefully know better than to expect Soundgarden 2.0 when it comes to Cornell’s solo material (remember his Timbaland-produced album Scream?) and while Cornell’s new music isn’t retreading those waters in particular, his solo sound has remained softened, as heard in album’s first single, “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart” which you can watch below. And yes that is Eric Roberts in the video (and strumming by Cornell’s side).

Higher Truth is out via Universal Music Group on September 18th.
