Having produced the soundtrack to my misspent youth with their long-running 2manydjs project, I’m always excited to hear a new remix from the Belgian duo Soulwax. This week, Tame Impala shared the Soulwax remix of their latest single, “Let It Happen.”
It’s a solid addition to the Soulwax remix catalogue, with dreamy synths teasing us into a dark, thundering bass line, which carries us through a nine-minute long psychedelic techno trip. Follow me on the journey below, and remember to never underestimate the power of a perfectly placed cowbell:
David and Stephen Dewaele, the brothers behind 2manydjs and Soulwax, rose to prominence in the early 2000s. The duo have been consistently in demand thanks to their raucous DJ sets and remixes over the past 10 years, though they haven’t released any original productions since 2005’s Nite Versions.
More recently, the duo curated a radio station in Grand Theft Auto V, Soulwax FM, and have been touring with their high-end Despacio soundsystem together with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. Check out this great mini-documentary about the development of the project here:
The brothers announced another project this week: a new label called Deewee, launching September 19th. Resident Advisor has more info here.
