It might have taken him a minute, but after 20 years in the game Royce Da 5’9″ was rewarded with his first ever #1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with his record ‘Layers’, removing Rihanna from the prestigious spot. His success hasn’t come without a price, 4 years sober, Royce admits that Hip Hop consumed him and he was drinking all the time. It was actually fellow Detroit rapper Eminem who helped him get clean. His first singles video, “Tabernacle” takes on an historical biopic tone. The video reflects on how he broke into the Detroit rap scene, key people, and events in his life as he rose to prominence with his Hardcore work ethic!
Royce Da 5’9″ is currently on the 38 city North American “Layers Tour”, hitting Canada and the US.
