Following a heart-warming and well-deserved tribute at the 2015 Soul Train Awards, many fans were left craving new music from the legendary songwriter and hitmaker. He hadn’t released a solo album with new material since Grown & Sexy in 2005. His latest album, Return of the Tender Lover, pays homage to his 1989 sophomore album, Tender Lover, that went triple platinum and spawned hits such as, “It’s No Crime”, “Whip Appeal” and the title track. The lead single from the new album is the song, “We’ve Got Love”, which is a fun-loving and enduring track that works well without being campy. Other notable songs on the album are “Exceptional” and “Standing Ovation” where he solidifies that he is simply the best at romantic story-telling. Some highlights on the album are collaborations with the R&B group After 7 and talented crooner, El DeBarge. The video released for the song is also a throwback to when R&B was strictly for the grown & sexy people who wanted to do nothing more than enjoy good music and good vibes. The album consistently delivers and showcases outstanding artistry that will remain as timeless as his complete body of work. Return of the Tender Lover is currently available digitally.
