Montreal based DJ Kaytranada has won the 2016 Polaris Prize awarded to the best Canadian record of the previous year for his offering 99.9%. Beating out a stacked shortlist which included Carly Rae Jepsen’s E•MO•TION, Grimes’ Art Angels, Basia Bulat’s Good Advice and PUP’s The Dream is Over, Kaytranada won the grand prize of $50,000 in the form of (what used to be) a giant novelty cheque.
Kaytranada joins the presdigious club of Canadian artists to have won the award including, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Feist, Tanya Tagaq, Fucked Up, Caribou, Arcade Fire, and Owen Pallett.
