‘The Ballad of the Runaway Girl’ by Elisapie was just released today. It was inspired by the self-doubt she felt from a tumultuous postpartum depression and finding comfort and hope in ancient Indigenous folk tunes. She also talks about her different facets and challenges as a woman; the adopted child, the mother and the lover. We learn about an Inuk who is proud of her origins and who works for the recognition of her people’s historic difficulties. Very meaningful and personal material.
A true Inuit icon, Elisapie has received a Juno Award for “Indigenous Music Album of the Year” and a Félix for “Anglophone Album of the Year”.
