In 2011 the harmonizing trio who count Erykah Badu, Questlove and Prince among their admirers dropped their debut EP The Story to critical acclaim.
Although it only had three tracks on it, the groups talent was coveted and praised, which led to working with neo-soul artist Bilal, Robert Glasper on his legendary Black Radio album to Kendrick Lamar sampling their song “Hey.” The group which consist of Anita Bias and twins Paris and Amber Strother, is known for fusing pop and R&B and have been compared to a mixture of Sade with Janet Jacksons “velvet rope” edge. Their music is mostly atmospheric and rich and predominantly lays comfortably in a mid-tempo groove that blurs the lines of current R&B. Their first full album, We Are Kings boast a 12 track body of work with five of the songs being re-envisioned versions of previous releases. One of the standout tracks on the album is the song, “The Greatest” which has a retro, but futuristic vibe that’s sexy and sophisticated with a similarly styled video to match. Other notable tracks are “The Right One” and “The Red Eye.” Fans will be delighted that their anxiously awaited return is no longer a myth, but a reality sure to make another long lasting imprint until they ride off into the sunset again.
