Usually there’s at least one of the following included in the annual Short List: Drake, Bieber, The Weekend – especially when they all released records in the past year. If only to make sure that the annual Prize Gala runs deep with Canadian super-stars, the Polaris Committee has a tendency to make sure at least one A-list canuck is in attendance.

Not this time around!

The jury of 196 Canadian music journalists have chose to snub these guys on the 2016 Polaris Prize short-list.

Instead the honours for the best Canadian album of the year will come down to the following:

Black Mountain’s IV
Basia Bulat’s Good Advice
Grimes’ Art Angels
Carly Rae Jepsen’s E•MO•TION
Kaytranada’s 99.9%
Jessy Lanza’s Oh No
PUP’s The Dream Is Over
Andy Shauf’s The Party
U.S. Girls’ Half Free
White Lung’s Paradise

The winner will be announced September 19th at the Polaris Music Prize Gala where crazy stuff like this happens:
