Canada Rocked – Sunday April 22, from coast to coast, “Juno Night in Regina”. Juno awards were presented to the top canuck talents for a great year and one truly extraordinary career.
Serena Ryder rocked the opening of the show with her hit “Stompa” and later assisted Billy Talent with “Stand up and Run”. Monster Truck took home breakthrough act of the year, Hannah Georges put on a powerful performance of “Robotic”, and The Sheepdogs made it clear that that they aren’t going anywhere but up, banging out their hit “The Way It Is”.
Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew proudly introduced pals and indie favorites Metric, who proved their indie super stature with a sonically stellar performance of “Synthetica”. Metric had quite the weekend raising up some hardware for Alternative Album of the Year, Recording Package of the Year and Producer of the Year (guitarist Jimmy Shaw).
Pop princess Carly Rae cleaned up with three Juno’s including single of the year while Canadian Super Group Rush scored Rock Album of the year with “Clockwork Angles”.
The highlight of the night went to K.D. Lang being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in truly Canadian spirit, accepting the honour on one condition: that it’s to be shared with the country that put her there. “I think the fact that I’m standing here receiving this award actually says more about Canada than it does about me.” Canada rocks!
